While the cost curve is falling, electricity generated from solar PV generally remains more expensive than electricity that's generated from conventional sources, like coal and natural gas.
For details, check out this comparison of 2007 prices, provided by SolarBuzz. As such, solar isn't right for every building or site. But with the right mix of government incentives and electricity usage trends, your company can drastically cut operating costs.
Further, as prices for conventional power continue to rise, over time these monthly savings grow. Here we present three topics that decision makers review when considering solar power as an option for their company.

ARCHITECTURE & ENGINEERING
Emerald NRG works closely with green home builders, green home designs or LEED architects who need LEED certification for buildings trying for LEED Silver, LEED Gold or LEED Platinum certification.Do PV systems improve a project’s chances of gaining LEED certification? The short answer is yes.
Non-residential LEED rating system
There are several ways that PV systems yield points under the nonresidential LEED rating systems. Renewable energy points are awarded directly, based on the percentage of a building's anticipated energy use that will be supplied by an on-site PV, wind, or micro-hydro system. Under LEED for New Construction 2009 (LEED-NC 2009), a building can earn one point for a PV system that provides 1% of the building's energy use. When renewables provide 13% of the building's energy, the building earns seven points—the maximum available.
Indirectly, a PV system can also contribute points by reducing the anticipated cost of the building's modeled energy use. A PV system that reduces the energy cost of a LEED-NC 2009 project by 6% would earn the building three points under Energy and Atmosphere Credit 1, which awards one point for every 2% in energy savings. PV systems are also considered "equipment" on a roof, so any area covered by a solar array reduces the amount of roof area that has to be either reflective or planted to earn a point for heat-island reduction. At ground level, PV shading devices over parking spaces can help earn a point as well.
LEED for homes rating system
In LEED for Homes, a PV system can earn points either directly or indirectly but not both. If the home is certified using the performance path for energy points, then the PV system contributes based on how much it helps reduce the HERS (Home Energy Rating System) rating. If the certification is based on prescriptive measures, up to ten points are available for on-site renewable energy generation.
Emerald NRG is interested in bidding on any of your projects that are trying to get LEED certification. Contact us today.
GOVERNMENT & NON-PROFIT
We can help schools, government agencies and non-profits go solar, cutting energy costs so budgets can be redirected for public good. Our experience in navigating compliance issues make it simple to enjoy the benefits of reducing your long-term environmental impact.
